It's all for Bella
I've chosen to run the London Marathon for Cats Protection because rescue cats have always had a huge place in my heart.
I've grown up with cats my whole life. In 2023 my boyfriend and I adopted the most gorgeous 13-year-old rescue cat, Bella. She'd been waiting over five years to find a home and was diabetic, so our life quickly became all about twice-daily insulin injections, blood glucose checks from her ears, and personal meow alarms at 6am. It sounds like a lot, but honestly I wouldn't change a single thing.
We became really close with the rescue that brought us together, and seeing everything they did for cats like her made me appreciate just how important charities like Cats Protection are. They also let us become cat cuddlers, which was the best job ever.
Sadly, Bella was diagnosed with lymphoma and passed away in 2024. We only had a year together, but I wouldn't change it for the world. She was the funniest, most beautiful little cat (definitely my spirit animal, we used to gang up on my boyfriend), and I know we gave her the happiest final year we possibly could.
Bella's the reason I'm running. If this helps even one more rescue cat find the kind of home she had, every mile will be worth it.
Full of life and energy, with a heart of gold. She cares about everyone she comes into contact with.
